Consultant and Doctor in the Forestry area

Academic career:   My academic career began in 1981, when I entered the undergraduate course in Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), whose conclusion took place in 1985. I did a specialization in Forest Planning also at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), from 1996 to 1997. The master's degree in Rural Administration was carried out at the Federal University of Lavras from 1997 to 1999, whose dissertation is entitled “Optimized Forest Planning”. The doctorate was carried out between 2015 and 2019 at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and the thesis entitled “Forest Management Decision Support System for Forest Plantations: a multicriteria approach” received the international mention cum laude. 

Professional Career

What is evident throughout my professional career is the persistent conciliation between applied research, technological innovation and the development of creative solutions for the industry based on the latest discoveries in science and technology. I am an agricultural engineer, graduated from the Federal University of Viçosa (1981-1985), and I started my career working for seven years in the sugarcane industry as an engineer and manager of optimized harvest planning. For the next six years, I worked as a forest information systems analyst, which informed the next step with knowledge. I did a specialization and a master's degree in the area of forestry planning at the Federal University of Lavras (1996-1999). Then, with two more partners, we created Athena Recursos Naturais. At Athena, I was one of those responsible for introducing the concepts of systematization in forestry processes and database designs for the forest-based industry in Brazil. During twenty-three years, director of the companies Athena Recursos Naturais, Savcor Forest, and Atrium Forest Consulting, I directed consulting teams for the implementation of forest management systems in Brazil, Latin America and Central Europe. As CEO of Atrium Forest Consulting since 2009, I have focused on the management and economics of industrial and multifunctional forest plantations, data analysis, financial and economic modeling, and systems design. I worked as an independent researcher on SuFoRun, ForEAdapt, Decision-ES, COST-FORSYS, COST-ORCHESTRA, European Union cooperation and research projects related to Decision Support Systems in Forest Planning. Since 2013, I have been working with the Working Group to Support Public Policies, which provides specialized advice to the São Paulo State Environment Secretariat. From 2016 to 2019, I did my PhD at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, working with forest planning models.
